SEF Re-directing and How Old is your Domain?

Filed under: E-commerce, Random Narrative — Red January 26, 2007 @ 12:04 pm

Does it matter? How old your domain is? When your considering its performance in page rankings? It does. Google will put a new site in a kinda ’sandbox’ period for 3-4 months before your site gets to play with the adults. If you work on your feeds, links and other SEO techniques you might come out of Googles sandbox with a decent page rank!

If you are moving your site to a new URL, don’t loose out on the traffic you have built up with your previous site! Use a 301 redirect! Want to know how? Visit here this site tells you how to insert a 301 re-direct in your header in various different code. If you want to check that its search engine friendly you can go here to verify that everything is working. Most of my applications are php so I chose the php header but creating an index.php file with this code:

Header( “HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently” );
Header( “Location: http://www.new-url.com” );

(enclosed in the php tags but wordpress likes to kill these!)

Then you can place is a nice ‘we have moved’ message/image or use redirect javascript.

Have fun my SEO friends!

All blinked out? Well try joining a social shopping site like This Next or Crowdstorm and save the products you recommend to a list just like blinking! Well this is another opportunity for merchants to create their own lists of their products to market to the consumer. Again very web 2.0, everything is free and everything is community based. Even shopping comparison is becoming free just check out ‘TheFind‘ and ‘ShopWiki‘ Merchants can add their shop and get their products crawled. Roll on a free internet!!!!!! Everything free, OK we will expect more adverts but hey BUILD THAT COMMUNITY!
