Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Tuesday 2nd November: Some Finnish band with some Scottish band supporting them.

You can’t say The Rasmus don’t give the audience all they have. Blood, sweat and more sweat went into the performance.
Standing at a gig is where it’s at baby, sitting down to see a band is wrong. Specially in a corset and 6 ¾ inch platform boots. The support band Hiding Place, have been the first support band I really liked. To the point that I am toying with the idea of seeing them in Cambridge on the 16th. They were full of ‘rock juice’ and energy, using the full span of the stage to their advantage. Their songs are tuneful and if I have actually known any, I am sure I would have been singing along. The Rasmus had a curious set up, with two ramps adjoined to a platform with the drummer perched at mid height in the centre. I was hoping that the lead singer would ‘grind’ down the ramps, but he refrained, more’s the pity. The songs were loud, clear, bouncy and regardless of the audience, Pauli and Aki were having themselves a superb time. They both grinned and giggled their way through the set. At one point Lauri gave Eero a bit of a shock as he looked as though he was just going to bounce his way straight through him. As the main focus of the teenage girls attentions, Lauri played a good sex symbol by periodically swaggering down the ramps on stage. He is like a little ball of energy traversing across the stage set-up. When you know where he is, you don’t know where he is going. And when you know where he is going, you don’t know where he is. They also had a mini acoustic bit part way through the gig in which I feel they excelled. You felt as though you were watching musicians and not just a gothic boy band. This is where Lauri sounded his best. All in all an energetic gig from start to finish (insert rolling eyes here) from both bands and a great way for a girl to spend a Tuesday.

Tease me to death for the good review, but they put on a good show.
